Once upon a time, a grandfather was walking through a winter forest, chopping firewood. He was walking along a path, and ahead of him was a dog running, wagging its tail. Grandfather grabbed an axe, grabbed a bag, and moved on. And the frost was cracking, the snow was creaking, the branches were covered with hoarfrost.
Grandfather walked and walked, and he didn't notice when he let go of a mitten from his pocket - a warm, woolen one, knitted by an old woman. The mitten fell into the snow and remained lying under the Christmas tree. And grandfather walked on, not noticing anything.
A little mouse ran past that Christmas tree. He saw a glove lying there, big and warm. «Oh, what a nice little house!» the mouse exclaimed happily. “I’ll live here.” He climbed inside, raked up some straw, and made himself comfortable.
Then the frog-scratcher jumps up: «Who lives in the glove?» «I, the mouse-scratcher, and who are you?» «And I am the frog-scratcher. Let me in too.» «Get down, there will be room.» There are two of them now.
A bunny runs through the forest. «Who lives in a glove?» «I, a mouse-scratch, I, a frog-scratch, and who are you?» «And I am a bunny-scratch. Let me in too.» «Come in, little dove.» There are already three of them huddled together in a glove.

The cunning little fox-sister is running, sweeping the trail with her tail. «Who lives in the glove?» «I, the mouse-scratch, I, the frog-scratch, I, the bunny-runner, and who are you?» «And I am the little fox-sister. Let me warm up too.» «Come in now, just a little bit.» There are four of them.
A gray wolf runs, his teeth chattering from the cold. «Who lives in a glove?» All four of them answered him, as they should. «Let me in too, oh, I’m freezing, poor thing!» «Come in if you can squeeze in.» The wolf climbed in—there were five of them in one glove.
And then the boar-Iklan comes in, shoveling snow with his snout. «Khro-khro! Who lives in a glove?» Everyone answered him. «Let me in too.» «What are you doing with your sides!» «I’ll at least stick my snout in.» He stuck his snout out — and little by little he climbed in all the way. There were already six of them.
A clubfooted bear is walking through the forest, rolling from side to side. «Gu-gu! Who lives in a glove?» They answered him. «I’ll crawl too!» «Oh, my gosh, where are you going, so healthy!» «And I’m at the very edge, at the very edge.» The bear got stuck in the glove — it was cracking at all the seams, and the animals were barely breathing, but they were sitting. There were already seven of them, and the glove was about to burst.
Meanwhile, the grandfather rushed - there was no glove. He turned back, and the dog ran ahead. The dog ran to the Christmas tree, saw the glove moving, and barked: "Baw-baw-baw!" The animals were frightened, they rushed to run away - the mouse in one direction, the frog in another, the bunny in the third, the fox, the wolf, the boar, the bear - who went where! The grandfather picked up the glove, shook off the snow and went home. And the animals remembered that warm hut for a long time.
💛 It's cramped, but not boring when you're together. And someone else's home won't shelter you for long.
