In seahorses, the father gives birth to the babies.

Imagine a world where the father carries the babies himself and gives birth to them himself. Sounds like fiction? But in the ocean, such a world really exists - among seahorses! These are the only animals on the planet where the father carries the babies.

When a mother grasshopper meets her father, she lays up to 2,000 tiny eggs right in a special pouch on his belly — like a kangaroo’s. Then the father carries these eggs for 2-4 weeks: swings them, feeds them through the bag walls, and protects them from predators. And then a great miracle happens — the father starts «pushing» with his belly, like a real mother in labor, and hundreds of miniature grasshoppers jump out of his pouch one after another. Each baby is the size of a grain of rice!

Seahorses are amazing. They have no scales—just bony plates, like a tiny knight in armor. They swim upright, head up, slowly moving their transparent dorsal fin—as many as 35 times a second. And the seahorse's eyes are like a chameleon's: the left eye looks forward, and the right eye looks back. They can simultaneously search for food and watch for an enemy sneaking up on them.

And seahorses are faithful. The male and female choose each other for life and «greet» each other every morning with a special dance, intertwining their tails.

So if someone says, "Only mothers always give birth to babies," think of the seahorse. Nature is different, and it's a true miracle.
