On a green and sunny hill lived a small dragon named Pip. Now, most dragons in fairy tales love to roar and puff smoke — but Pip loved something else entirely. Pip loved flowers.
Instead of breathing fire, Pip breathed the softest warm air, just right for helping seeds to sprout. His hill was the most beautiful garden for miles around.
But the village children were afraid of him. “A dragon!” they cried, and ran away whenever they saw his green tail over the hill.
This made Pip sad. He only wanted to share his flowers. So one morning, very gently, he left a little bouquet of daisies and buttercups at the edge of the village, and hid to watch.
A curious little girl found the flowers. Then another appeared the next day, and another. Soon the whole village was full of blossoms, and everyone wondered who the kind gardener could be.
At last the children followed the trail of flowers up the hill — and there was Pip, shyly holding a fresh bouquet. This time, no one ran away. They saw his gentle smile and knew he was a friend.
From then on, Pip and the children tended the hillside garden together. And the village learned that being different is not something to fear — it can be the greatest gift of all.
Good night, little one. Dream of gentle dragons and hillsides full of flowers.
