In a sunlit castle above a green valley lived a kind young princess named Elara. One morning, she found a small silver key hidden beneath a loose stone in the garden wall.
“What could it open?” she wondered. She tried it in every door of the castle, but none of the locks would turn. The little key seemed to fit nowhere at all.
Puzzled, Elara walked down into the village to ask the old clockmaker. On the way she passed a boy crying by the road, for his little wooden cart had broken.
Elara knelt and helped him mend it. Further on, she carried a heavy basket for a tired baker, and read a story to a lonely old woman by her window. She quite forgot about the key.
By the time she reached the clockmaker, the whole village was smiling. “Everyone speaks of the kind princess today,” the old man said warmly. “You have opened more doors than any key ever could.”
Then Elara understood. The silver key did not open a chest of gold or a secret room. It had reminded her that the smallest kindness unlocks the warmest hearts.
She kept the little key on a ribbon ever after, not as a treasure, but as a promise: to open her heart to anyone in need.
Good night, little one. Dream of sunlit castles, and keep the little key of kindness close.
