Letter Tracing Worksheets: Print or Trace Online
A tracing sheet for every letter of the English alphabet: capital and small letters on dotted lines, a picture to color and free lines to write.
Letters A to Z
How these tracing worksheets work
Each sheet has one big letter as a model, a picture of a word that starts with the letter and five lines of practice: a gray sample, single-line dotted letters to trace (like in a school notebook) and a free line to write the letter alone. The letters are single-line print letters, the easiest shape for a child to copy.
The sheets suit children from 3 to 6: toddlers can trace with a finger on a phone, preschoolers use a pencil and a first grader can practice neat handwriting.
Frequently asked questions
At what age should a child start tracing letters?
Most children are ready for pencil tracing at 4 to 5. Younger children can trace with a finger first. Start with the letters of the child’s own name.
Do I need a printer?
No. Open any page and trace the letters online with your finger or a mouse. For paper practice, press Download PDF and print on regular A4 paper.
Which letters should we learn first?
The ones in your child’s name, then simple straight-line letters such as L, T, H, I, E and F, and last the round or tricky ones such as S, G, Q and R.
