Why are even penguins afraid of leopard seals?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Among all the seals in the world, there is one special one - a real hunter. The body is long and flexible, like a shark. The head is a bit like a snake's. The skin is dark gray with spots - just like a leopard's. That's why it was called that - the sea leopard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The length of an adult female is up to 3.8 meters, and its weight is 500 kilograms. It is larger than the male, which is rare in the animal world! There are 32 teeth in its mouth, among which are sharp fangs 2.5 centimeters long. And it swims at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour \u2014 8 times faster than an Olympic swimmer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main dish of the leopard seal is penguins. It waits under the ice, near the place where they jump into the water. One move and dinner is ready. The penguins are so afraid of the leopard that sometimes they stand on the edge of the ice for hours, not daring to jump first. Someone has to try - and everyone watches to see if the brave one will swim out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is a strange story. Photographer Paul Nickelen once dived to a leopard seal in Antarctica. The large predator did not attack, but on the contrary - began to bring him penguins! First alive, then dead, then very small ones. It seems that the seal decided that man was an inept hunter, and decided to feed him. This story is still told to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The leopard seal is not an evil monster. It is simply a predator that fulfills its role. There are no bad or good people in nature - every animal is part of a great balance. And as you can see, even a formidable beast can have a surprisingly kind soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
