Imagine: you are standing on the Arctic ice field, the temperature is -40\u00b0C, and there is a snowy desert all around. And suddenly you notice a huge bear - it seems to be snow-white. But here is the first secret: not a single hair on it is actually white! The fur of a polar bear is completely transparent, like tiny glass tubes. And the skin under this fur is a deep black color, like coal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does it work? The black skin absorbs the heat of the sun's rays, like a dark T-shirt in the summer. The transparent hairs are hollow inside - they are filled with air, which works like a thermos. People have long thought that bears are just white. And scientists who have studied their hair under a microscope have gasped in amazement. Nature came up with such a clever costume long before we invented thermoses and down jackets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
