Did you know that there is a creature in the ocean that has nine brains and three hearts? Yes, that's right! An octopus has one big brain in its head and eight smaller ones, one in each tentacle. This means that while one tentacle is opening a shell, the other can feel a pebble, and the third can taste a shrimp. Imagine if each of your fingers had a separate brain: you could draw, eat, and button your jacket at the same time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And an octopus needs three hearts because blue blood flows in its veins. Yes, real blue \u2014 not red, like ours. Two hearts pump blood to the gills, and one \u2014 to the whole body. Interestingly, when an octopus swims, its big heart stops for a moment. That's why it's easier for it to crawl along the bottom than to swim \u2014 crawling is less tiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Octopuses are real smart people. They open jars with screw caps, navigate mazes, recognize people by face, and even use tools\u2014they carry coconut halves around as a \u00abhouse.\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And they are also masters of camouflage. In one second, an octopus can change the color and even the texture of its skin \u2014 to look like a stone, algae or sand. And this despite the fact that scientists say: octopuses\u2026 are color blind! How they do it is still a mystery to the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next time you see an octopus in a picture, remember: in front of you is the smartest inhabitant of the depths with blue blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
