If you think spiders are scary creatures in webs, meet the jumping spider. It's tiny, only 5-7 millimeters long\u2014about the size of a grain of rice. It's furry, curious, and jumps on its prey like a tiny tiger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now the most important thing: it has eight eyes. Two large ones in front - like searchlights. Two smaller ones on top of the head - to see what is flying above. And four more on the sides - for lateral vision. Together they give the spider almost all-round vision: it sees what is happening in front, behind and to the side at the same time. Imagine that you have eyes on the back of your head - and not only that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the most amazing thing is its two front eyes. They don't just see movement, like other spiders. They see a clear image with colors, like you see with your own eyes. Some species even distinguish more shades than humans. That means a jumping spider sees flowers brighter than you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before jumping, this little one takes aim like a sniper. First, he glues a thin thread to a leaf \u2014 like a climber's belay. If he misses, he will hang on it and return back. He jumps 50 times further than his height. Imagine: if you jumped so proportionally \u2014 you would jump over a 9-story building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
