In the swamps of the Amazon lives the heaviest snake on the planet - the green anaconda. It reaches 9 meters in length and weighs over 200 kilograms. It is like three adults joined into one long snake. But the most amazing thing is not its size. It is how it eats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An anaconda can swallow a whole deer or an alligator! An animal five times wider than its head. How is that even possible? The secret is in its jaws. Snakes don't have one solid chin. The lower jaw consists of two separate bones connected by an elastic ligament. Like a rubber band. When an anaconda opens its mouth, this elastic band stretches - and the mouth opens 180 degrees!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the upper and lower jaws move independently. The snake takes turns "pulling" its prey - first with its left side, then with its right. Like when you pull a sock on your foot - first the heel, then the toe. Only here the sock is the snake, and the foot is the deer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The swallowing process can take several hours. And digestion - several weeks. After such a lunch, the anaconda does not eat for months. Its metabolism slows down by 40%. It simply lies in the sun and rests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most surprising thing is that the anaconda has no teeth for chewing. Its teeth are curved backwards, like hooks. They only hold the prey, they do not tear it apart. All digestion is done by the stomach, which has the strongest acid in the world of reptiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature has invented a living swallow that is 9 meters long. And it has been working perfectly for millions of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
