His name was Meowth. He had a silver spacesuit with a round transparent helmet, four soft boots on his paws, and a long fluffy tail that stuck out from his tailbone and floated behind him like a fluffy ribbon.

Meowth loved space like other cats love a warm radiator. He knew the names of all the planets. He knew where Saturn lost one of its little rings. He knew why Venus was so pink in the morning. And what he wanted most in the world was to see a black hole.

"They say you can fall through there and find yourself in another universe," he whispered to himself, leafing through star charts. "If only I could look with one eye.".

Meowth was brave. It was his greatest desire to see what everyone was afraid of.

So one starry morning he put on his spacesuit, checked his milkshake can, and set off. He flew past nebulae that smelled like his mother's perfume. He passed comets that left silver ribbons in their wake. He greeted wandering planets that beckoned him from afar.

And now, on the seventh day of the journey, his paws themselves clenched on the small steering wheel.

Ahead, amidst the scattering of stars, something large, dark, and silent circled. It did not shine—it seemed to draw the light in. The stars around it spun in a slow dance, as if they did not dare to fly any closer.

"That's it," Meowth whispered. "A black hole.".

His heart pounded—not from fear, but from wonder. He carefully steered his ship closer. And as he flew very close, he heard something strange.

A soft, soft sound. As if someone had sighed.

"Hello," said Meowth, gently. "It's me. I'm a cat.".

The black hole shuddered. The rays of light it had been slowly drawing into itself froze for a moment.

“You… aren’t running away?” came the voice. It was deep, but not scary. It was sad.

"No," said Meowth. "Why should I run away?"

"Everyone is running away," sighed the black hole. "Everyone is afraid of me. They say she's scary, she absorbs everything, you can't go near her. And I... I just love hugs. I really, really love them. But I don't know how to give them. I only know how to receive them. I unintentionally attract everything that comes near me. That's why everyone is running away.".

Meowth imagined it. What it was like when everyone walked past you. When you held out a paw and everyone else just backed away. Something stirred softly in his chest.

He flew even closer. He sat down at the very edge - where the stars still dared to twinkle.

"I won't fail you," he said. "I'll just sit next to you.".

And he purred. Quietly, quietly. The way cats purr when they want to calm someone down. Meow-woo-woo. Meow-woo-woo. Gently, evenly, without haste.

The black hole froze. She had never heard such a sound up close. She was used to silence. To people flying past her quickly, without looking back.

“Are you… are you staying?” she asked cautiously.

"I'll stay," Meowth nodded. "If you don't mind.".

And he stayed. For a whole week. He told her about the Earth—about the rains that smelled of warm grass. About children laughing as they blew soap bubbles. About mom's hands that smelled of milk and vanilla. About dreams in which you flew over flowers.

The black hole listened. It listened so intently that the stars around it stopped passing it. They flew closer. They peered in. Some perched on its edge and shone softly, like candles on a birthday cake.

And on the seventh day, Meowth noticed something strange. The black hole no longer drew light towards itself. It glowed on its own. Not brightly—softly, like a table lamp under a lampshade. Warm, like a kettle that had just boiled.

"I... I don't want to swallow anything anymore," she said in surprise. "I just want to shine.".

"That's the world," Meowth smiled and rubbed his helmet against its edge. "You're doing it gently.".

When Cosmo-cat finally flew home, the black hole stared after him for a long time. It shone a soft silver ray on his back - its first in its life. And it didn't want anything else. It just waited. It waited for someone to fly back to warm its paws next to it.

The space cat returned to his little star station, threw off his spacesuit and drank some warm milk from a blue mug. He felt quiet and warm in his heart. A sheaf of stars floated quietly outside the window, like semolina scattered on a black tablecloth. Somewhere far away, on the very edge of the darkness, his new girlfriend was now quietly shining - and he knew it.

A few days later, old Meteor the postman flew to the starry sky. He brought a small bundle of silver dust.

"To you, Meowth. They asked me to pass it on," he grumbled and moved on.

Cosmo-cat carefully unwrapped the bundle. Inside was a small drop of light shining. Quiet, soft, warm. He took it in his paw - and it gently lay down on his pillow.

"It's from her," Meowth whispered. "Her first smile.".

He put a drop in a jar by the window. And from then on, a small warm ray of light always lived in his hut. At night, it shone so softly that Meowth didn't even need a nightlight.

And on distant cosmic roads, a rumor gradually spread. That somewhere there was a black hole, which was not scary to fly to. That it shone softly. That even comets were warm next to it. And people began to fly to it — at first rarely, one at a time. Then more.

Because he understood what all cats know: when you're afraid of someone, you don't have to run away. You have to sit next to them and purr. And then kindness will do what no law of physics can do. It even changes the stars.

✨ Kindness and affection change even those whom everyone fears ✨

Space cat Meowth set off across galaxies in search of a black hole — the most mysterious creature in the universe.
