It was as tall as three little children, one on top of the other. Its branches were thin and a little gnarled, but in the spring and early summer this bush worked a real miracle.

He blossomed.

Each branch was covered with dense, dense clusters of lilac flowers. Each flower was as small as a pea, with four petals. And together they covered the bush as if someone had thrown a lilac shawl over it - soft, fluffy, cool to the touch.

And every evening, when the sun set and the air in the garden became moist and warm, a wind was born from among those flowers. Not a big wind - the one that tugs at the hems and carries the leaves in autumn. But a completely different one. Small. Gentle. Lilac.

It was no bigger than a butterfly. One might say it was not even the wind, but a fluffy evening breath. It was born in the very heart of the bush, quietly shaking a drop of dew from the petals and beginning its evening journey.

His name was Little Dream.

Little Dream flew lazily between the branches of the lilac. He collected here and there the sweet aroma - tickling, delicate, like the one in grandfather's postcards. He filled himself with the smell, like a tiny jug is filled with milk. And when he was filled to the brim - he flew on.

He crossed the garden. He flew past the strawberry beds. He touched the clawed pumpkin leaf with his tail. He caressed the antennae of a sleepy grasshopper that was dozing on a stalk. And he flew to the house.

In the house, near the open window, a small child slept in a wicker cradle. Absolutely tiny. In a white shirt, with rosy cheeks, with a fist into which the child had squeezed the corner of the blanket.

Little Sleep slipped through the window silently. Quieter than a feather. Quieter than the blink of an eye.

The baby in the cradle was barely asleep. He stared at the ceiling with his big eyes for a while longer and moved his leg softly. He didn't quite want to fall asleep yet.

But then a smell reached the cradle.

Lilac.

The child took a deep, deep breath. His nose stretched upward, his nostrils widened slightly. The aroma entered his chest, a warm wave rolled over his entire little body — to the tips of his fingers, to the top of his head, to the very heels.

And the eyes began to stick together.

First one. Then the other. It wanted to open them again—but its eyelids became soft and heavy, like lilac petals filled with evening dew. Its body felt heavy with rest. Its fist relaxed, the blanket fell off it and lay softly beside it.

The child sighed—deeply, sleepily, the way all children sigh when they fall asleep.

Little Dream circled quietly over the cradle. He carefully stroked the baby with his wing-petals. He tickled the cheek. He straightened the strand of hair that was climbing onto the forehead. And he sang without words - only aroma, only tenderness, only a lilac whisper.

The child dreamed of something good. He saw violet fields stretching to the very horizon. Paths ran through the fields. On the paths stood tiny lilac bouquets — all by themselves, without vases. And between them ran the child himself — on small, strong legs — and laughed. Free. Easy. Happy.

The child smiled in his sleep. The corner of his lips moved ever so slightly.

And Little Dream sat on the edge of the cradle and watched as his work was done. He did it every evening. And every evening he felt just as good.

When he was sure that the child was sleeping soundly and sweetly, he quietly flew back out the window. He flew through the garden—past the sleepy grasshopper, past the strawberry patch—and back into the very heart of the lilac bush. There he fell asleep himself—in the fold of a petal.

Nature knows such things. Smells are healing. Sounds are soothing. The warmth of the evening air is lulling. All this is yours today. You just have to close your eyes and let the lilac breeze take you to a sleepy field.

He's already flying. He's already close. He's already at your window.

Good night, little one.

Good night.

✨ Nature has its own quiet magic - you just have to close your eyes and trust it ✨

A lilac wind blows softly from the evening garden - and a child in a cradle falls asleep, breathing in a sweet sleep.
