Her name was Veselunka. She was very small - the size of a pansy petal, with transparent wings, like those of a soap bubble, and with brushes in both hands, which always stuck out from her belt, like an artist's.

The work of the Merry Little Girl was the most beautiful in the world. After every rain, she would fly up to the highest cloud, collect paint from small jugs that hung on her belt, and paint a rainbow across the sky. Seven colors. One after another. In a certain order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, blue, purple.

People on earth, seeing the rainbow, stopped. Someone pointed with a finger up. Someone said "look, look!". Little children jumped happily. Old grandmothers smiled their quiet smile. And the Merry Little Girl, sitting on a cloud, happily waved her legs and giggled.

Until one day a strange story happened.

The rain that day was especially heavy. It poured, poured, poured, watering the fields, gardens, roofs. The earth was soaked, the trees were glistening with water, little bubbles were bouncing in the puddles. The merry one was waiting for the opportunity to fly out. She loved the smell of the earth after the rain — so warm, fungal, with a hint of fresh grass.

When the rain began to subside, Merry Little Girl took her jugs and flew up onto the cloud. The jugs hung on a thin leather belt. She began to take them out one by one.

Red is there.

She drew the brush across the sky in a big arc. A beautiful, rich red stripe appeared.

Orange - yes.

The second strip lay next to it, like a slice of orange.

Yellow…

The merry girl felt around her waist. The yellow jug was not there. She felt around again - it was not there. She looked into the small bag she carried on her shoulder. There were cookie crumbs and a spare brush, but the jug with yellow paint - not there. The merry girl remembered: in the morning she had washed the jugs in a drop of dew and had put the yellow one to dry on a daffodil flower. And she had forgotten. It remained somewhere there, on the ground, on the flower.

The fun froze. Down below, on the ground, people were already leaving their homes. Grandma with a pot hung on the porch, grandfather with a newspaper on a bench, children ran through puddles with a shriek. Everyone was waiting for a rainbow.

And the Merry Little Girl stood on a cloud with tears in her eyes. How could she be? A rainbow without a yellow one is not a rainbow. Everyone will see it. Everyone will be surprised. Everyone will say: «What kind of incomplete rainbow is that?»

She wanted to hide. To climb into the thickest cloud, wrap herself in it from head to toe, and not come out until tomorrow. Maybe the day after tomorrow. Maybe never.

The merry girl lowered her brushes. She sat on a cloud, hugging her knees. Her little heart was beating very fast - from fear of making a mistake.

Then suddenly she felt something warm on her cheek. She looked around. It was the sun. Big, round, golden, peeking out from behind a cloud. It didn't say anything out loud—suns don't know how to speak out loud. But its rays slowly fell on the raindrops that were still hanging in the air.

And — a miracle. In the air, right in the middle of the rainbow, where yellow should have been, yellow appeared. By itself. The sunbeam seemed to sink into a raindrop and spread out in it with a warm stripe. It shone. It stretched. And lay between orange and green — evenly, softly, golden.

The rainbow shone in full. Seven colors. So much so that the people below cried out in joy.

The merry girl looked surprised. Her mouth opened of its own accord. She looked at the sun.

“Is that you?” she whispered.

The sun smiled its golden smile. And the ray gently touched Merry's cheek - as if to say "yes.".

"Sometimes we lack one thing," Veselunka heard a quiet, warm voice coming from the very light. "Sometimes we lack courage. Sometimes color. Sometimes strength. And that's not scary. The world helps itself when we can't. We're not alone here, little one. We're a team.".

The merry-go-round listened. She took her brush and painted green, blue, blue and purple. The rainbow shone from edge to edge, like a bridge of colored glass. The people below looked up, and a little glow was reflected in their eyes too.

The merry one turned to the sun.

“Thank you,” she said quietly. “I thought I was going to screw it up.”.

The sun smiled again.

— You didn't mess it up. You did exactly what you could. And everything else was helped by others. That's how it should be. Nature is a team. And we all create beauty together. Not alone.

The merry girl put her jugs on her belt. She flew home to her little cloud hut. All the way she thought about the sun's words.

From that day on, Veselunka was no longer afraid of mistakes. If she forgot her brush, she would return it. If she spilled paint, she would mix it with what was left. If something was missing, she would calmly look at the sky and wait. And every time someone came to her aid: the sun, the breeze, or even a small drop of rain that fell from a cloud and managed to retain the last particle of some color.

One day she ran out of blue. The merry girl then looked around - and a big blue bird with shiny feathers flew in, shook its wing, and one blue feather hung in the air, dissolved in a raindrop, and the rainbow got its blue. Another time there was not enough purple. A butterfly flew to the rescue - purple, like an evening cloud. It circled around the rainbow, leaving a thin trail behind it - and the purple stripe fell into place.

The cheerful girl became more and more convinced that the sun was right. That no one in nature is alone. That in every matter there are invisible helpers - you just have to not be afraid to ask, not be afraid to accept.

When she had a little niece - also a fairy, also with tassels on her belt - Merry Little Girl began to teach her how to draw rainbows. And the first thing she told little Rainbow was not about colors or order. But here it is:

— Don't be afraid, little one. If you forget something, we're all here. The sun. The wind. The birds. The butterflies. The drops. The clouds. And I'm right there. The world is a team. We all create beauty together.

She painted with a smile. And she knew: if something doesn't work out, the world will help. Because no one is alone in the world. And in work. And in joy. And even in a small mistake. Someone is always there — to add the missing yellow.

✨ Don't be afraid to make mistakes - the world is a team, and others will help when we don't have enough ✨

Fairy Veselunk used to draw rainbows after the rain.
