He was two years and three months old. He could already walk, rolling from foot to foot like a little bear cub. He could already say many words: «mama,» «daddy,» «kitty,» «bubu» (that’s what he called his favorite cake stick), «meow-meow» (that’s when he saw the neighbor’s cat).

But he didn't know two words yet. He didn't say "please." And he didn't say "thank you.".

When he wanted a candy, he would stretch out his hand and say, "Aum-am.".

When he wanted to take a toy from his cousin, he would stretch out his hand and say, "I want it.".

When he asked his mother to hold him, he would raise both hands and say, "Here, here.".

Everyone laughed. Timko was cute. Everyone knew he was still young, he would learn. But grandma thought: it's time. He's already two years old. It's time to know the main word.

One Sunday, the whole family gathered at Grandma's. Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle, two cousins — the older Andriyko (ten years old) and the younger Sasha (five years old). And Grandma in the middle of the kitchen, where the smell of pies and apples filled the air.

After dinner, Grandma got up, went to the sideboard, and took out a jar of candy from her top shelf. It was a special jar—white and red candy, shaped like round balls with a string. Grandma gave them out on special occasions.

She gave it to Andriy — he said «thank you» loudly and clearly.

I gave it to Sasha — he also said «thank you,» a little wrong, like «thank you,» but it was clear that he was trying.

And then she approached Tymko.

Timko was sitting on a small high chair. He saw a candy, stretched out his little hand and said:

— Am-am!

Grandma smiled gently, but didn't give me the candy.

She held it between her fingers. Timko held his palm—empty, waiting. Between them—a sweet candy on a string.

«Say »thank you,’” the grandmother asked.

Timko was silent. He didn't know the word. He just wanted a candy. Timko tried to grab it - the handle reached out.

But grandma didn't let go. She held the candy gently, wrapping her palm around Tymko's little hand.

"Wait, little one. Give me a word. Grandma wants a gift too. She gives you a candy. And you give her a word.".

Timko froze.

Everyone at the table was silent. Andriyko stopped chewing. Sasha put down his spoon. Mom and Dad watched - they didn't interfere. This was an important moment.

Timko looked at his grandmother. He wondered how much a two-year-old could think.

It wasn't a fight. Grandma doesn't fight. Grandma just teaches. He understood it—not with words, but with his heart. Because her eyes were warm. Her smile was gentle. Only her hand held a candy—to make him stop, to think.

Timko looked at the candy. It was white, with a red string. He really wanted it.

I looked at my grandmother. Her eyes were like the spring sky. Soft. Waiting.

Something stirred in Tymkov's little heart. He remembered. Not in words, but, as happens with children, in images.

He remembered how his grandmother had brought him home a pie last week. He remembered how sometimes his grandmother would take him on her lap and sing about her sister fox. He remembered how yesterday, when he had fallen and cried, his grandmother had put a warm towel on his lap and blown on it.

Grandma always gave him good food. Always.

Timko slowly—slowly, as only a two-year-old could—reached out with his free hand. Not for the candy. For his grandmother. For her cheek.

He placed his little hand on her cheek. Her cheek was warm, soft, with fine wrinkles. He stroked it, as one would stroke a small bird.

And whispered. Very quietly. Almost breathed out:

— Thank you.

With a pause in the middle, because his lips weren't quite obeying. But there was a word. The first word he said. Not "mom." Not "dad." The one that's important now.

Grandma froze. Her eyes sparkled. And then they became wet. Tears. She leaned over and hugged Timko tightly. The little candy ended up between them — not lost, not broken.

At the table, Mom was crying. Auntie too. Dad cleared his throat as if he was choking. Andriyko and Sasha watched, not understanding why everyone was crying when everything was so good.

Timko didn't understand either. He didn't cry. He just smiled a toothless smile. Grandma gave him a candy, he took it, unwrapped it — snapped the string — and put it in his mouth.

Sweet. Like the spring sky.

He remembered this moment. Not with words—he was still too young for words. But his little heart learned: when you say "thank you," the room becomes warm. Everyone smiles. Someone cries. And you feel good.

This word was small, like a piece of candy. But it opened the doors of the heart - the doors of everyone who was around.

From that day on, Tymko always said «thank you.» Sometimes incorrectly — «thank you,» «thank you,» «thank you.» But the main thing — he said it. This word became his middle name — at family dinners, his grandmother jokingly called him «my little thank you.».

And when Tymko grew up, he didn't remember this moment. But somewhere inside him remained the knowledge: "thank you" is the most important word. Because it is like a key. To people. To the world. Forever.

✨ "Thank you" is a word that opens the door to the heart ✨

Little Tymko didn't know how to say "thank you" — only "am-am" and "I want." But one day his grandmother gave him a candy — and taught him the most important word.

[10
19
23,25,24
post-393","kazka","type-kazka","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","kategoriya-kazky-pro-ditej","vik-vik-3-plus","zhanr-23","zhanr-25","zhanr-24
"image_1_prompt":"children book illustration, soft watercolor, cute, toddler hugging grandma after candy gift, learning gratitude","image_2_url":"https://www.kazkaland.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/yak-tymko-vyvchyv-dyakuyu-2.jpg","image_2_prompt":"children book illustration, soft watercolor, small toddler gently touching grandmother's cheek with tiny hand, warm kitchen light, tender moment
["GET
