What she liked most was the small room under the roof, where it smelled of apples and lavender. In the corner stood an old oval mirror in a wooden frame carved with small leaves.

That evening, Grandma wrapped Orisya in a checkered blanket, kissed her forehead, and turned off the big light. Only the table lamp remained, shining a warm amber circle.

"Good night, little room," Orisya whispered, as her grandmother had taught her. "Good night, little bed. Good night, mirror.".

And suddenly, very quietly, as if from under the water, the mirror answered:

— Good night.

Orisya froze. Her heart jumped under the blanket like a little mouse. The girl pulled the blanket up to her nose and looked intently into the corner. The mirror stood silent, and only the lamp, a piece of pink wallpaper, and the small edge of her pillow were reflected in it.

‘'I guess I just imagined it,' thought Orisya and closed her eyes. But a minute later she heard it again - thin, careful:

— Don't be afraid.

This time her heart beat even faster. Orisya peeked out from under the blanket. Something seemed to move in the mirror. The lamp flickered, the shadow of the apple branch outside the window crept across the floor. The house was so quiet that she could hear her grandmother's clock ticking downstairs.

Orisya wanted to call her grandmother. She wanted to crawl under the covers and pretend nothing had happened. But then she remembered her grandmother's words: 'Daughter, it's only scary for those who haven't looked carefully.'‘

The girl took a deep breath, threw back the blanket, and stepped barefoot onto the warm rug. One step. Two. Three. The old boards creaked softly. The lamp swung its shadow across the wall.

Orisya came so close to the mirror that she could see her own nose and two big eyes.

“Who are you?” she asked in a whisper.

“And who are you?” the mirror replied in the same whisper.

Orisya blinked. The girl in the mirror blinked too. Orisya raised her hand—and the one in the mirror raised it too. Orisya smiled—and the reflection smiled back, warmly and a little slyly.

“So it’s me!” Orisya breathed out and laughed so hard that the whole room laughed with her.

But the reflection suddenly leaned closer and said very quietly, almost like a breath:

"I am you, who is not afraid. I live here and I am waiting for you to come and meet me.".

Orisya opened her eyes wide.

"Have you always been here?"

"Always," nodded her friend Orisya. "It's just that you used to only look at her hair and cheeks. And I'm your courage. Do you want us to shake hands?"

Orisya pressed her palm against the cool glass. On the other side, another palm pressed against hers—exactly the same, only a little warmer to the touch.

“Shall we be friends?” Orisya asked.

"Always, always," she promised, from the mirror. "And when you're scared, remember that I'm inside you. Just call.".

Orisya stood there for a while longer, looking at her new friend. In the reflection, everything was just like in the real room: the flowery wallpaper, the lamp with the lampshade, and the round pillow with the embroidered rooster. But it seemed that on the other side, everything was a little brighter - as if the room knew some kind of affectionate secret.

“What if I dream of something scary at night?” asked Orisya.

"Then just open your eyes and look here," replied my friend Orisya. "I'll wave to you. And the terrible dream will immediately blow away like a dandelion from a breath.".

— What if I have a fight with someone during the day and start crying?

"Then come too. I'll show you how beautiful you really are when you smile. Because people forget how beautiful they are when they're sad.".

Orisya nodded. It all sounded very wise for a mirror—but then again, the mirror had probably been here since Grandma was little. Maybe she too had once spoken with her courage into this glass.

“Did your grandmother come to see you too?” Orisya asked in a whisper.

"Yes," the reflection nodded gently. "When she was like you. Then her courage had long braids with blue ribbons.".

Orisya laughed softly, because she imagined her grandmother as small.

Then the girl yawned, wished the mirror sweet dreams, and returned to bed. The blanket seemed even warmer, and the shadows from the apple branch were not scary at all, but simply lacy. Before falling asleep, Orisya waved her hand to the corner - and there, in the dark glass, a small hand moved in response, barely perceptible.

In the morning, the grandmother came with a cup of milk and a honey crust on a plate. She stopped on the threshold and looked carefully at her granddaughter.

"You're special today, Orisya. It's like a flashlight has turned on inside you.".

"Grandma," Orisya said seriously, straightening her hair, "my best friend lives in your mirror. And her name is Orisya too. Only braver.".

Grandma put down the cup, sat on the edge of the bed, and stroked Orisya's head.

"You know," she said quietly, "there are many more brave girls living in this mirror. And they are all you. Just on different days.".

Orisya thought for a moment, took a bite of the crust, and nodded. And the grandmother secretly winked at the old mirror. And the mirror, it seemed, winked back at her—warmly, like an old, very old friend.

✨ The bravest friend lives inside you - you just have to say hello to him ✨

Орися почула, як старе дзеркало в бабусиній кімнаті тихо відповіло на її ‘добраніч’. Та коли дівчинка наважилася підійти ближче, виявилося, що в дзеркалі живе хтось дуже знайомий і дуже сміливий.

[38
20
23,40,25
post-1642","kazka","type-kazka","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","kategoriya-kazky-zi-svitlom-u-temryavi","vik-vik-5-plus","zhanr-23","zhanr-40","zhanr-25
"image_1_prompt":"watercolor children book illustration, soft cozy palette, little Ukrainian girl in pink pyjamas looking into old oval mirror in warm bedroom, gentle lamplight, cosy rug, no scary elements","image_2_url":"https://www.kazkaland.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/dzerkalo-shcho-vidpovidaye-2.jpg","image_2_prompt":"watercolor children book illustration, soft cozy, smiling reflection of a brave girl in old mirror, golden stars floating, warm pastel colors
["GET
